Clown

The art of telling stories with our body and creating whole worlds out of thin air.

Mime (from ancient Greek mimos meaning imitate or mimic) is the only language in the world that everyone speaks. We begin to mime as children, learning by copying actions we see around us.

Though dubbed 'the art of silence' by Marcel Marceau, the world's most famous mime artist, mime doesn't actually have to be silent and you don't need to wear a stripey top to do it. Mime techniques such as fixed point, direction of the gaze and bodily awareness are valuable tools for any performer. Mime adds inspiration, playfulness and depth to improv, comedy and scene work, allowing us to recruit the knowledge of our bodies for our theatrical expression.

Join award-winning performer and physical theatre teacher Elizabeth Davie for this introductory workshop to explore your physicality and rediscover the joy of creating something out of nothing.

Elizabeth Davie has created sell out, award winning live shows for festivals around Australia and taught stand up comedy, clown and performance at RMIT University and Centre for Adult Education. Elizabeth has studied with world-leading clown and physical theatre teachers Giovanni Fusetti, Philippe Gaulier, Philip Burgers and Deanna Fleysher.
